Dreamed Wednesday Night July 15
I was walking around outside a one story house with my acoustic guitar strapped around my shoulder. I had been playing someone else's guitar but their strings were made of something strange and almost no sound would come out when they were plucked. So I switched to my own guitar even though the strings are hard to press down and hurt my fingers after a short while (true in real life).
I was just screwing around playing some chords when Patrick came out of the house and was super excited to jam. As usual, I was reluctant to "jam" since I never know what to play when we do that. My mom was there for a minute, and she made fun of me for playing my guitar so rarely. I was offended and told her something along the lines of "shut up". Not a nice dream exchange, sorry about that mom.
Instead of jamming, he played me a song he'd been working on and I think I was expected to add something to it. I have never been good at lead guitar and was trying to think of something I could add to the song. He was playing me the song from a recording that sounded completely finished so it was extra hard to try to add something. I then realized that the song resembled a song I had heard before: Wounded Bird by The Black Crowes. I told him that his song reminded me of theirs and he alarmingly asked me to find that CD and play him the song.
I flipped through Patrick's CD collection for The Black Crowes' section, which was at the back. His six or so TBC CD's were tubes of lotion. I picked the right tube and squished some of the lotion into the CD player to play him the song. I asked him why his CD's were in tubes and he said that if you ask the cook at the store, he'll sell you the CD's for 70% of the price in tube form.
I woke up with Wounded Bird stuck in my head.
A journal of some of Angie's most interesting and vivid dreams. Since childhood she's had very intense and realistic dreams most nights and this blog is to share the insanity with anyone who will listen.

Work Exercise Day
Dreamed Saturday Night July 11
Yep, I had two dreams this night. Well, probably more, but two memorable ones. I went back to sleep after Murderers, below, and had another vivid dream straight after. That's the way you do it right there.
This time I was back at work at my Australian engineering firm, BHS, and I was on site at a job with my boss, David. I don't remember it all now, but we were inspecting the concrete piers and columns at this particular site and, though I was having my classic eyelids-constantly-falling-shut affliction, I noticed a huge blunder by the builder.
To summarize using engineering jargon (sorry): the drilled piers were installed and the columns were poured but were done separately, like precast elements. The columns were supposed to sit directly above the piers with continuous vertical reinforcement, but the contractor was instead just setting the precast columns on top of the piles. Without the continuous reinforcement the columns would have no lateral capacity at all and, basically, this was a massive mistake that we needed to call attention to.
I was trying to tell my boss David about it but he was just walking away obviously trying to overlook the error (which is very unlike him, I might add). Anyway, I followed him into the building trying to talk to him about it, but it was apparently exercise day at work. A few times when we worked at BHS (in real life) we played company basketball at lunch with the six or so of us who would play. It was fun.
So we were supposed to get dressed for basketball or swimming or some sport to play together. Alicia was there and she was all nervous about playing sports with us, which I found odd since she posts to an exercise-based blog almost daily (which I read) and I would think she would love to play random team sports. Nevermind that I have no idea why she was at my engineering company in Australia. Shaun O'neil was also there to hang out and play with us. No idea why completely random people end up all smooshed together in my dreams.

Murderers
Dreamed Saturday July 11
I was with Kane but it wasn't Kane. Good start, I know. We were partners in crime, but he looked different than he does in real life. This was one of my famous (ha) long and involved dreams that was a bit like a movie. We were on the run from the cops; we were murderers. I don't know what spawned this dream as I haven't even watched any violent movies lately or played in video games. Hamlet 2 and Yes Man didn't exactly fill me with thoughts of murdering people, but that's what I got anyway.
I don't remember it all so vividly since it was a wake-up-at-6am-to-stop-the-horror type of dream, but I do remember the gist of it. We were on the run from the cops, presumably for murdering people. I have no idea why we were killing these people but it was necessary for some reason. The first "scene" was us pulling over to the side of the road and me beheading a woman in the bushes. It was graphic and, besides the screaming that I would imagine would have been present in real life, seemed relatively realistic.
I had a machete and was hacking this woman's head off. Yeah, I know, I'm disturbed. Instead of slitting her throat which would have gotten the job done a lot quicker, I had decided to start from the back of her neck. As you might imagine, a machete didn't get the job done in one or two or even three hits, so instead I was repeatedly slicing at this woman's neck from behind as she became more and more bloody and disoriented.
After the job was done, we hopped in our car and moved on to the next victim which was a man in his house. I killed him (though later he was prosecuting us and we had apparently just chopped off his thumb) and then even went downstairs to guide his daughter, with kind words, out to the pool behind his house to avoid her seeing him and calling the cops on us for a while.
We drove more and killed more and the cops got closer and closer. It was really tense and one of those dreams you're happy to wake up from. No idea what is wrong with my brain.

Showering
This was a truly irritating dream. I have ones like this sometimes that just become obsessive and ridiculous as my brain leads me all around. In this dream I was just trying to take a shower. I was camping or on vacation or something and it was time for me to tend to the good old hygiene. I started by looking for a shower in the campground I was in and, though there were about a dozen in an out building, they were all being used.
I found an empty one but there were spider webs all on the ceiling that were encroaching down into the shower space. I wasn't going to have any of that. I thought I'd wait for someone to finish but everyone was like in infinite shower mode, go figure. I found a shower that looked perfect, so I entered, undressed and started to shower. At this point I realized that it was not a personal shower but rather one used to rinse off after using the hot tub to which it was attached. The people in the hot tub were staring at me.
I grabbed my towel and wrapped it around myself and exited the shower/hot tub area getting my towel all wet and feeling ridiculous. I asked a girl who worked at the place if she knew a good place to shower. She showed me to a place she called "the tube" or "the tunnel" or something where there were some showers in an open wood building. I set up my stuff in the little area and then went away for a minute to use the toilet or something. When I came back people had set up an archery range with the target being just next to the shower heads. So groups of people were lining up with their bows and firing arrows into targets where I was hoping to shower.
I was extremely surprised at this development, but not nearly as surprised as I would have been in real life. I mean, archery? Anyway, I never got to shower in my dream and was waiting, dejectedly, for the stupid archers to finish as my mind faded elsewhere.

Q-Zar Battle
Dreamed Sunday June 28
This one was actually a Q-Zar dream. I rarely have these in lieu of Planet Lazer dreams all the time. I was working at Q-Zar Pleasanton and there were 2 birthday parties going on which meant throngs of rambunctious children filling the lobby. Our little sales desk at the front of the place was surrounded by thick plexiglass like at the bank for some reason. In retrospect, I wish we had used a barrier like this at the real Q-Zar, it would have helped block out the madness.
Somehow a child had gotten into our little desk area and I grabbed him, opened the door, and threw him out. The kids wanted to be in there for some reason, so as I opened the door I had to be careful not to let any more in. I shoved the one kid out too hard and he fell down and I felt bad.
I then went to the bathroom and as I went in the door I entered a series of cheesy painted caves, like Disneyland style, that were supposed to be our bathroom corridors. The only problem is that it was like a maze and I couldn't find the actual toilet stall. So I was wandering around the dark, low ceilinged caves searching for the path that took me to the toilets. I would have thought I would know the maze better since I worked there, but no.
I finally found the toilet (thank goodness this part was not emphasized or else I may have wet the hotel bed – embarrassing for sure) and saw that someone had a bunch of their stuff stacked up on the sink counter. There was a tiny toiletry bag and like a curling iron, and someone's tiny gray kitten. I looked around but saw no one. As I was coming out of the stall I saw a girl entering the room. I hid behind the stall door but when I peeked over to see her, she was right on the other side staring at me. I guess I had intruded on her secret area or something.
At this point I was suddenly inflicted by a case of heavy eyes. This happens a lot to me in dreams, most often when I'm trying to run from someone or something. My eyelids are droopy and I can't do anything to keep them open. I can only see about half of what's in front of me since everything keeps fading to black; it's really irritating. As this girl and I were looking at each other, I realized she actually looked like me but with a nose the size of Cyrano de Bergerac (probably about ten times bigger than my real nose). I brushed it by accident as my hand swept back over the stall door.
As I got out of the stall I realized we were going to fight. We started to brawl all down the corridors of the caves. I was trying to ambush her around each dark corner, but she knew the caves better than I did. I don't remember how this ended, but it was an evenly matched fight and neither of us were getting hurt (I watch too many movies.)

Worms
Dreamed Monday Night June 22
Ok I finally did it – I had a memorable dream on this trip with time in the morning to write it down. I have had plenty of good, strange dreams this trip – even had a good Planet Lazer one the other night – but I typically don't have the time to write it down since we're always having to go do stuff in the morning. Ah the burden of traveling, no time to update my dream blog, sigh.
So, I was kicking it outside some house in like a garden area. Janyce from Cal Poly was there and so was Kane along with some other people. We were all just hanging out and talking, climbing in a nearby tree and on the oddly shaped house. Beav showed up; someone dropped him off from a car. He had a hat on and looked like a little boy (not far from the truth, no offense Beav). I tried to tell Janyce who he was (worked with me at Thom Hume's, etc) and then he turned into a giant fish. Who apparently could breath air since he still just floated around near us.
He was probably a 60 pound fish with light blue skin. He had three eyes but one was gone. We asked him if we could touch his skin since it looked so strange; he was reluctant but said yes. I compared it to an elephant even though it felt nothing like an elephant. Then I sauntered down to a little amphitheater area where a bunch of girls from my class at All Saints were hanging out. Allison S., Christina, and a bunch of other people. We all laid down on the grass to watch something in the sky, though I'm not sure what.
Then my dad called on the phone. I wandered away from the group to talk to my dad, but he wanted to chat on Skype for some reason. I told him that I wasn't near a computer at all and that we'd have to Skype later but he wasn't happy about that for some reason. We were sort of just sitting on the phone in silence when my path was interrupted by a narrow bridge. It was only about as wide as one of my feet and paved in (a single width of) brick. I don't know why I felt I had to cross this bridge, but I did. There were handrails, but the ground below was probably 200 feet away so I was still wary (I'm scared of heights).
As I crossed the bridge the path widened (and at some point I was not on the phone with Dad anymore). At the end there was the French couple who was on our tour this weekend and they were being instructed by some guy to squash the worms. Looking back on the path there were tons of worms and snails and we were supposed to squash them all. I was grossed out. The couple had been given some instrument to do the squashing, but I was just supposed to step on the worms. So we proceeded back over the bridge, me before the couple, and tried to squash the worms and snails as we went. I was totally disgusted because most of the worms were over a foot long and about an inch in diameter so you couldn't just squish them in one step, you just sort of bounced off them or squished part of them. I still kept trying but I was hoping that the couple behind me would have more luck since they had proper worm squashing instruments. Why do my dreams focus on the strangest things?

Vacation Dreams
Dreams on vacation are strange. I've had dreams of working at both my old office in Cali and my Melbourne office (apparently I want to be back at work...). I had an excellent dream the other night where I met my cousins' kids who were toddlers (time warp to the future). In the dream I was on the phone with Monique's son Henry, but in the dream his name was Clayton. He was about four years old and I said to him, "Hi Clay..." and he said sarcastically, "Did you just call me Clay?" and I was essentially sassed by a four year old. Monique found this funny when I told her about it (in the dream).
This was taking place at some party being thrown by Olivia Rangel that had all sorts of elementary school and high school people hanging around. I met Anthony (from Cal Poly) at the party and he looked very gloomy. He had a four year old son who was also at the party who was running around and being very hyper. Apparently it had not been Anthony's intention to have this kid and he wasn't getting along with the mom (his girlfriend) very well. I gave him a big hug to comfort him.
I find that when I'm on vacation, I often wake up remembering my dreams like normal, but don't have the time to write anything down since we have things to do. So, dream blog is being neglected. Hopefully I can get a few good ones before the end of the trip!

Captives
This was actually a quite lengthy and, let's face it, relatively boring dream. At least compared to my usual madness and excitement. I was a captive at some war-related camp with a bunch of other people. We were locked into this facility that was sort of like a big warehouse. I just remember the bathroom was one giant room with like 100 toilet stalls but the dividers were way too short such that you could see over them. Isn't that just such a dream thing to happen? Why can't I have my dignity when I'm using the restroom in my dreams*?!
The only person I knew there was Nate. He had a huge bushy beard. Everyone was very dejected and depressed to be in this camp, including me. We wanted to stage a coup, but we were all to scared of being killed. I actually remember saying something like, "Gosh, I wish this were like a video game where I had more than one life" - I can't believe I'm embarrassing even in dire dream situations.
*I actually do know why the toilet stall is always too short or the toilet is in the middle of the room in my dreams - it's so that I don't make the same mistake I used to when I was a kid and think, "hmm, I guess I do have to go..." and proceed to unconsciously relieve myself in my bed. I'm glad the old brain has figured a way around this.

Changing Realities
I had a really terrifying dream last night. Unfortunately, it was the kind that doesn't sound terrifying at all, but you just have to trust me that it was very frightening and quite exhausting. For the first part, I was the main character. I had received a card, like a comic or baseball card, with some info on it. It told me to take the card to the top of a hill where there was a castle (I was on some fairy island or something). I took the card to the castle and exchanged it for another card, not really knowing what I was doing. The man who exchanged my card looked very sinister, like Jafar from Aladdin. He also cracked my camera which was the 110 film, flat rectangular one (like this) I had when I was a kid - what a jerk.
Something about the new card meant that something bad was supposed to happen to me (oooh, cryptic predictions - terrifying!). I saw people jumping off the cliffs around the castle as I descended back down the mountain, but I did not have the urge to join them, which I sensed was to Jafar's dismay. When I got to the bottom of the mountain I swam with some friends in a huge, clear, beautiful, tropical lagoon. It was like the most perfect Bahamas location ever; the water was warm and shallow and clear blue and we were having a great time. I started to take some pictures but my camera was broken.
Suddenly, a couple men attacked me from behind. The were trying to abduct me and were forcibly pushing me underwater. I don't know where my friends went (jerks everywhere in this dream). I had to get away. I swam slightly faster than they did and kept swimming and running with them on my heels the whole way.
Then the dream switched to a movie-style setting where my perspective is through the "camera" and someone else is the star. This happens to me often. The protagonist was a man of about my age. He had straight brown hair and he sort of picked up where I left off with the guys chasing me and the bad omens, etc. He was having other troubles though: his reality kept changing.
This is a constant problem in, say Star Trek TNG*, and, more recently House, and my friend was similarly afflicted. He's in the house and suddenly water starts to seep in under the door at such a rate that he may not be able to get out in time to avoid drowning. Or, not unlike Quantum Leap, one minute he's in the shower or vacuuming or having dinner and the next he's outside a car in a valet uniform with some jerk of a Beamer owner yelling at him to get it together. He can't figure out what's real and it keeps changing and most of the time the visions are of terrifying things.
He even tries to get some help and has a friend take him to some sort of seminar for crazy people. But something just warps the room and he's suddenly somewhere else. He can't tell what's going on. Eventually he just gets sick of it and, as he's backing up in the valet car, he hits the gas hard. He plummets toward the forest behind but the reality changes in time so that he's now in a parking lot headed for a pole. And then it changes again so that he's somewhere else, and keeps barely avoiding catastrophe in this manner.
The dream ended (thank goodness) as my alarm went off in the morning. It was one of those dreams where you wake up all tense and are relieved to find that it was all in your head, a fact that somehow - amazingly - had completely escaped your attention until that point. The last vision I had before waking up was a close-up of the man's face. He had crazy clown makeup on - white, red, blue - and his eyes were huge and had fake light blue contacts. He was shaking and shouting gibberish; he had gone completely crazy.
*Like the one where Worf is switching realities and first he notices the cake changed flavors, then he only got 3rd in the Batleth tournament, then Riker's captain, then he's married to Deanna! Then all the Enterprises start appearing and they (Data) calculate that in 32 hours or something the whole galazy will be completely filled with Enterprises!!!! You know you remember that episode.

Giraffe Nose
It's so hard to figure which dreams I want to blog about. I seriously have dozens every night and I typically wake up in a state of groggy confusion, trying to sort out what's happening in my real life and what was dream. It's always the boring stuff that's my real life. No giraffes here.
I typically wait until I have a particularly clear and concise dream to blog about it. It's the only way I can hope to keep anyone entertained at all, not to say that anyone reads this. In defiance of these qualifications, I wanted to mention that I had a dream the other night where I got to pet a giraffe's nose. I was in some sort of pod or roller coaster car or something which was placed at such a height that I was level with a giraffe's head.
I asked whoever the guide person was if the giraffe would bite me and I was informed that he would not. He (the giraffe) looked toward me and I pet his nose between his nostrils. It was exactly as soft and warm and squishy as a horse's nose. It was so delightful that I have remembered it for many days since. Now I want to pet a giraffe.

Volcano Vacation
Dreamed: Friday night May 8
I've been sleeping very oddly this last week - my sleep patterns seem to come in weekly batches. Sometimes I sleep like a damn rock. I plunge immediately into the depths of unconsciousness at night and am groggily wrenched from this state with the morning alarm. Other times I am more fitful and toss around semi-conscious throughout the night. Other times I awaken more readily at the alarm, approaching the behavior of a normal person. This week I slept well but woke up with a mild headache 5 minutes before my alarm each day. The reason I kept waking up just before the alarm is because my dreams kept ending, like a movie. The dreams stop and my mind is like, uh, I guess we wake up now? It's all quite odd.
I've gotten some really good ones in this week but have essentially been too lazy to document them. I know, you're heartbroken because you've been watching the blog feverishly. Oh wait, no one cares about my dreams, I forgot.
Last night I had two memorable dreams - my body awoke at 7am this morning just after the end of crazy kangaroo dream, then went back to sleep for this one. My sister had come to visit me in this dream, and we went out together to explore the city together. It wasn't exactly Melbourne, but I think it was close. We were waiting at a tram stop when the station itself started to drift carelessly down the tram tracks. It was a very tiny platform, so we just stayed on since it seemed to be heading in the direction we wanted to go.
We arrived downtown - which was a normal city with tall buildings, etc built adjacent a sweet lake or river across from beautiful mountains. The water's edge was a nice place to walk with parks and restaurants (completely fictional, of course), so we started to meander. A few minutes into our walk I looked up to see a huge silvery blob high up in the air plummeting down into the park behind us. It looked like an airborne avalanche of snow*, but for some reason I knew it was the volcano across the river erupting.
Down the esplanade I could see lava consuming the pavement and anything in its path. It was coming our way. I was completely panicked. I thought we should run but I realized that if even the river of lava so much as brushed our legs we'd be done for. It was a matter of being lucky enough not to be right where the lava was flowing.
Fortunately, this city (I think it was Hawaii actually) was used to this sort of disruption and the lava/fires were promptly tended to and business continued as usual. Apparently the volcano wasn't too serious this time and no one seemed to mind.
*It was moving in slow motion - I just saw the new Star Trek movie last night.
